Say goodbye to the Google Pixel Fold 2 and hello to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Google may be looking to reset people’s perception of its foldable smartphone efforts. Following the Pixel Fold from last year was supposed to be the Pixel Fold 2, but a new report today claims that it has been renamed and will actually be sold as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Additionally, as we previously heard, the device could debut at Google’s annual hardware unveiling event this October, and not at Google I/O in May like its predecessor.
Thus, in October, Google may announce not the usual two, but four smartphones. Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are roughly the successors to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, while the Pixel 9 Pro is said to be smaller than the Pixel 9, but with the spec upgrade we’re used to. Ideally all of these should use the upcoming Tensor G4 SoC.
The switch from the Pixel Fold 2 to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold seems to have happened very recently in internal Google communications. Of course, things may change again before release, so keep that in mind.
