Samsung’s latest foldable panel is MIL-STD-810 certified

Samsung has announced its 7.6” foldable panel, similar to the one used in the Galaxy Z Fold5, has passed the US Department of Defense test method standard, better known as MIL-STD-810. The standard ensures that the product can function without damage under harsh conditions such as extreme temperature changes and external shocks.

Samsung Display has revealed that it is the first company in the world to achieve such military-grade certification for foldable OLED panels.

Every product that goes through the testing process must withstand extreme conditions, such as working for four hours at -10°C after being sprayed with water and covered in a 6mm sheet of ice.

The panel also continues to work when the ambient temperature changes between -32 and +63 degrees for 2 hours; Each test must be completed three times.

The stress test also includes 26 drops from 4 feet (1.22 meters, which is the real-world height used), and the panel withstands 10.5G of pressure through rotational motion.

A Samsung Display representative told Korean media that foldable devices do not lack durability, a common misconception. Expectations are that this standard will open the door to a wide range of applications for foldable panels in the near future.
