Samsung Galaxy S24 series tipped to support Ultra HDR

Google introduced the Ultra HDR feature with Android 14, which allows users to capture and view HDR photos in HDR format instead of SDR on their Android devices.

Some Chinese flagships already have the same feature, but Samsung didn’t implement it with One UI 6. However, rumors claim that Samsung will implement an Ultra HDR-like feature in its smartphones next year.

The word comes from reliable tipster Ice Universe, who said that the Galaxy S24 lineup, which is expected to arrive in January 2024, will support viewing HDR images in photo albums. If true, this would be a great way to make use of the Galaxy S24 lineup’s rumored 2,500 nits peak brightness.

Support for an Ultra HDR-like feature in the Galaxy S24 lineup will also improve the photo viewing experience as HDR images will not be mapped to the SDR display range, thus retaining the brightness, contrast and color range of the original HDR. Image viewing time is not affected.
