OnePlus Open survives grueling bend test

The latest phone to be put through the now-traditional durability test by Jack of YouTube channel JerryRigEverything is the OnePlus Open, OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone.

Surprisingly, the cover display has glass above it, which, like all glass, scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deep grooves at level 7. The inner screen is similar to other foldable displays – it’s covered by a plastic protector. , which scratches at level 2 and gets deep grooves at level 3.

The sides of the phone are confirmed to be made from aluminum and it seems to be reasonably dust-proof. The outdoor display lasts about 25 seconds of open flame exposure before the pixels turn white – pretty standard behavior for an OLED screen. The plastic screen protector on the inner panel burns out in about five seconds.

Finally, the bend test: the phone survives bending from both directions while folded. Not only this, it avoids bending in the wrong direction while open. After hunting it, it does not return to its original place, but remains 100% functional.

OnePlus hasn’t had the best track record with these bend tests recently, and so it’s great to see that its weakest device is actually the most resilient to such tests. Sometimes, reality can surprise you and defy your expectations.
