OnePlus Open leaks in detailed renders with a rumored price of $1,699
Earlier this month, OnePlus kicked off its hype-building campaign for the Open with a promotional video that showed the device from some, but not all, angles, and also concealed what appeared to be a massive camera island on the back.
Today a typically reliable source brought us a ton of leaked renders of the upcoming foldable smartphone and they leave nothing to the imagination, showcasing every detail. And indeed, there is a huge camera island at the back.
The renders suggest that the OnePlus Open will be offered in two colors – a faux leather black and a glass green. The phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which makes sense considering it’s rumored to launch this month. But Qualcomm will launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in just a few days, and that will open up an awkward space.
Especially since this leak brings a rumored price of $1,699 in the US, just $100 less than when the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 launched. So it is not possible to deploy Open in the more affordable segment of the market to reduce the use of superceded chipsets almost immediately.
However, the OnePlus Open will come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage, a 6.31-inch outer screen and a 7.8-inch flexible main screen sourced from BOE. It is said to be made official on October 19. As per previous rumours, it will have a 48MP main camera, a 48MP ultrawide and a 64MP 3x optical zoom camera.
The handset will at least make it to the US and Europe, but not in Germany due to parent company Oppo’s ongoing patent dispute with Nokia in the country.
