OnePlus 12 will have the same cameras as OnePlus Open, Oppo Find N3

The OnePlus 12 will feature a 50MP main camera with a Sony LYT-808 sensor, according to Lewis Gee, head of the company’s operations in China. He posted a teaser showing three Hasselblad-branded cameras, revealing that the ultra-wide shooter will have a 48MP sensor, while the periscope lens with 3x telephoto zoom will have a 64MP imager. There is also a 13-channel multi-spectral sensor to enhance the capabilities of the camera setup.

The setup sounds familiar and that’s because it’s similar to the OnePlus Open and Oppo Find N3 – the only change is the architecture and design of the internals.

Information about the main sensor is not new, but now we have further confirmation that OnePlus has decided to play it safe with its new flagship smartphone. We’ve already reviewed the Open and Find N3 (which are essentially the same), and we found the camera experience solid for both photos and video.

We believe the OnePlus 12 will be able to produce slightly better images for one major reason – it comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Qualcomm promises AI-enhanced camera capabilities in all phones with the new SoC, including semantic segmentation to enhance the vibrancy and detail of real-life images, an object eraser for videos, and generative AI to expand images beyond the original captured data.

It is up to the manufacturer to implement these features on the OnePlus 12, which will be launched in China on December 5, while the global unveiling could be on January 24, 2024.
