Nothing Phone (1) Android 14 beta is now out

Last week the stable update to Android 14 rolled out for the Nothing Phone (2) and this week it rolled out to the Spotlight Phone (1), the company’s first smartphone, released last year.

Now an open beta of Android 14 is available to all phone(1) owners who are brave enough to run the beta software on their devices. Phone (1) is labeled as Nothing OS 2.5, as is Phone (2) Update. As the name suggests, this is the most significant update since the launch of Nothing OS 2.0 alongside the Phone (2) earlier this year.

Inside are many new features: a redesigned customization page for both the lock screen and home screen, the ability to turn your background photo into a dynamic wallpaper, new solid color wallpapers, a new monochrome color theme, customizable double press power button gestures, and more. Lock screen shortcut options, a new screenshot editor, a faster way to capture screenshots with new widgets.

A new Glyph animation for using NFC, a new back gesture arrow design, a new quick settings layout and most importantly – the ability to set ringtone and notification sound volumes separately!

There are also stability improvements for the camera, as well as “improved overall system stability for a more reliable and smooth experience”, the company boasts.
