Without much ado, MediaTek has announced a new but somewhat familiar Helio G91 SoC designed for entry-level 4G smartphones. The G91 has mostly the same hardware as its Helio G88 and G85 siblings but offers an upgraded ISP.
All three chips mentioned above share the same CPU configuration – 2x Crotex A75 clocked at 2.0 GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 ticking at 1.8 GHz. The trio shares the same GPU – the Mali-G52 MC2 clocked at 1.0 GHz. Of course, the same 12nm manufacturing process is also used by TSMC.
However, the new G91 now supports sensors up to 108MP, which should make the chip a preferred choice for manufacturers looking to put together a competitive budget solution in 2024. Last but not least, the G91 is a very new chip that very few should get. More support years.
