Galaxy S24’s Always-On Display wallpaper not coming to older models

Samsung announced the Galaxy S24 phone yesterday, which comes with One UI 6.1. The new interface lets you keep your home screen wallpaper on the lock screen when the always-on display feature is turned on.

According to insiders who spoke to SamMobile, the feature will be exclusive to the S24 series for now. Older Galaxy devices have less efficient displays so enabling the feature will affect battery life very severely.

The always-on display wasn’t a battery-friendly feature to begin with. Still, Samsung says the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra’s panels are more energy-efficient and therefore the loss of battery life is acceptable.

The new feature removes the background of the image on the home screen, leaving only the object in the foreground of the lock screen. That way, you can always have your favorite person or character on display.
