Fairphone 5 in for review

Fairphone has ten swappable modules – OLED display, rear and front camera, USB port and battery. Thanks to the removable back panel, you don’t even need tools to change the battery.

This brings us to the third and at least deepest corner of the Fairphone 5. It feels retro in a good way. It all starts with the feel in the hand – it’s a wide phone with big curved metal edges. It’s a stark contrast to the current style of phones – no unnecessarily thin frames, no extra flatness, no flashy materials.

The display is surrounded by a large black bezel. The removable back cover makes for an easy time when you can open your phone, take things out and bring other things inside.

The easy and comfortable trend continues with the software. Even though the latest version is 13, it’s as easy as getting Android But the phone starts at a 60Hz refresh rate (there’s a 90Hz option) and with on-screen buttons (there’s also gestures). It feels like we’re back to the early days of 2019 phones.

The Fairphone 5 could easily be called the Fresh Air Phone 5, though it won’t have the same ring, we admit. Our review is on its way, so stay tuned!
