Android 15 coming soon, Developer Preview 1 out, the first beta is coming in April

Today, a day after the rumours, Google released the first Developer Preview (DP) of Android 15. Another DP build is coming in March, followed by the first beta in April, the second beta in May and then “platform stability”.

Phases starting in June before the final release… then July, which Google is releasing now. The company says it will be “a few months” from June until the official release, for what that’s worth.

As always with a startup DP, there aren’t many new things baked in and the things that are highlighted are mostly developer-centric. Android 15 will have support for partial screen sharing, which means you can share or record just an app window instead of the entire screen.

Health Connections includes additional performance framework improvements and new extensions to support new data types, along with more control over camera hardware and algorithms on supported devices.

Files in Android 15 can be protected with custom cryptographic signatures, to protect them from being tampered with or corrupted, and to protect against malware or unauthorized file modification.

As the pre-beta labeling implies, this build isn’t for everyone. This is intended to play with app developers and ensure their apps will work well with upcoming releases, as always, beta builds will be easy to register for anyone with a Pixel starting in April.
